Company's community partnership campaign provides paid time off and charitable support

CORK & DUBLIN, 22 October 2010 — Employees from BNY Mellon's offices in Cork, Wexford, Navan, and Dublin today completed a six-week Community Partnership Campaign which has involved a wide variety of activities from fundraising to working with young children in local schools.

BNY Mellon has a longstanding heritage of philanthropy and community partnership stretching back to the founding of the company in 1784. Employees participate in many fundraising and community activities all year round however each September – October, the company raises the profile of the programme through a dedicated campaign and offers employees an extra third day of paid volunteer time during this timeframe.

This year's campaign ran from 13 September to today, 22 October, and was an opportunity for BNY Mellon's employees to come together and combine their energy and generosity to support charitable causes in their local community. The program encourages team volunteering and fundraising year-round in the 36 countries in which the company operates.

In 2010 to date, BNY Mellon employees across Ireland have raised almost €60,000 Euro through a combination of personal donations, fundraising activities (many which benefit from the company's matching programme) and volunteered over 225 man hours for local community causes. Recent activities from September and October include:

  • Placements in local schools to participate in teaching schemes and teach young people about the world of work, helping them to develop business skills such as interviewing techniques and how to write a CV - through Junior Achievement (Ireland)
  • DVD, book and cake sales across all offices, plus a football tournament in Dublin, to raise money both in support of Shine (Ireland), a Cork-based charity which supports the families of autistic children, and the Pakistan Flood & Haiti Disaster Relief Funds with the International Red Cross

"Cuts in government spending are impacting the most vulnerable in our society as much as they are impacting those who are employed," said Joe Duffy, country executive for BNY Mellon in Ireland. Corporate giving is becoming so much more important as other funding opportunities are reduced. We encourage all our employees to get involved through team volunteering, team fundraising and to take advantage of the company match."
