BNY Mellon Asset Management Expands Dutch Footprint

BOSTON and LONDON, October 12, 2010 — Standish Mellon Asset Management Company LLC, the fixed income specialist for BNY Mellon Asset Management, has been appointed to manage a euro 230m European fixed income mandate by Achmea Beleggingsfondsen Beheer B.V. Achmea Beleggingsfondsen Beheer B.V. is a part of one of the largest Dutch insurance companies.

Achmea distributes a fixed income unit trust to clients in the Netherlands as part of its product offering. Until recently, the management of this unit trust had been contracted to one investment manager. Achmea has taken the decision to appoint two additional managers, resulting in a portion of the unit trust being managed by three different investment managers.

Standish is the only appointed manager based outside of the Netherlands, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of BNY Mellon. The mandate will be managed by Standish's dedicated Euro Fixed Income team under the leadership of David Leduc, Managing Director of Global Fixed Income.

"We are delighted to have been appointed by Achmea to manage this mandate. Our performance and range of investment strategies are compelling to institutions across Europe, as institutions increasingly see their value as a diversifier and potential return enhancer relative to their domestic bond portfolios," said Desmond Mac Intyre, president and chief executive officer of Standish. "Fast-growing economies are likely to offer opportunities to investors in both sovereign and corporate debt securities and we believe Standish is ideally placed to identify and capture these opportunities for our clients."

The company is widely regarded as one of the world's premier fixed income managers, and has established a track record of managing portfolios in the European Fixed Income market over the last several decades on behalf of a wide range of global clients.

"Winning this mandate is a major achievement for our company as we focus on supporting a broader client base in European markets," added Mitchell Harris, interim head of BNY Mellon Asset Management. "We look forward to assisting our clients as they seize new opportunities and manage risk in the global markets."
