Newton launches online trustee training centre

Aug 19, 2009

London, 19 August 2009 — Newton Investment Management has launched a new online training centre to assist UK pension fund trustees in gaining further knowledge on investment related issues.

The training centre currently comprises three key elements which will be developed over time, these include: a series of educational films, information on face-to-face training sessions and an online e-learning centre.

Commenting on the new initiative, Helena Morrissey chief executive officer at Newton Investment Management said: "Managing a scheme effectively in today's climate is challenging. The Pensions Act requires trustees to have a knowledge and understanding of investment issues. These requirements continue to make the role of being a trustee ever more challenging. To help meet this challenge Newton is pleased to pioneer this range of solutions to help trustees and others who are interested in investment related issues to gain further information."

The first aspect of the online training centre consists of three educational films. The first film features some of the pensions and investment community's most experienced and respected commentators and covers a range of challenges facing trustees in today's environment; topics include governance, asset allocation and asset classes. The second film focuses on equity investments and the third on bond investments.

The second component is face-to-face training sessions which can be run on a bespoke basis for individual boards or in group sessions.

The final element is the e-learning site and this has been designed to complement The Pensions Regulator's Scope Guidance with regards to investment issues. The e-learning site contains over 20 modules of training which trustees can choose to complete in their own time.

Further details of upcoming training sessions and the online training centre can be found at www.newton.co.uk/trusteetraining.
