Newton-managed fund range achieves industry recognition

LONDON, 30 January 2009 — BNY Mellon Asset Management received top honours at the Professional Adviser 2009 Awards in London. The Group won the "Hot 100 — Best Fund Group" (offering more that 15 retail funds) award, reflecting the outstanding success of its Newton-managed range of retail funds.

The Professional Adviser Awards profile the very best providers to the IFA market. The awards are about the confidence of independent financial advisers and the overall ability of providers to maintain a high standard of service and performance. They offer IFAs the opportunity to vote for those companies that they believe set the standard for the industry. BNY Mellon Asset Management won the overall award despite intense competition from other investment management groups. In addition, Newton was short listed for four sector awards: Best UK Equity Growth Group; Best UK Equity Income Group; Best European (excl. UK) Group and Best Asia Pacific (excl. Japan) Group.

Paul Feeney, head of international distribution at BNY Mellon Asset Management, comments: "We are thrilled to receive this award as it is testament to the consistent performance that we have delivered in Newton throughout tumultuous markets. Newton is delivering top performance across most of its retail fund range+. An example of why Newton continues to be recognised as being an award winning asset manager is the fact that all of Newton's UK equity funds listed in the IMA UK All Companies and IMA UK Equity Income sectors have delivered outstanding performance through exceptionally testing times*. The Newton Growth Fund; the Newton UK Opportunities Fund; the Newton Income Fund and the Newton Higher Income Fund all rank first quartile over all time periods from six months to ten years, where the record is available*. Over five years to 31 December 2008, all of Newton's funds in the IMA UK All Companies sector have delivered at least three times the sector's average return*."

Helena Morrissey, chief executive officer of Newton, added: "We are delighted that Newton continues to be nominated and awarded high profile awards such as those given by Professional Adviser. Newton's solid investment process has ensured strong returns throughout diverse market environments over the last 30 years. Our thematic approach to investing has helped us navigate the difficult investment environment that we have found ourselves in over the last year. Our focus continues to be on identifying positive investment opportunities for our clients."
