The Bank of New York Mellon appoints Makoto Saji as President of its Japanese securities subsidiary

TOKYO, April 1, 2008 — The Bank of New York Mellon, the global leader in asset management and securities servicing, has appointed Mr Makoto Saji as Managing Director and President of its Japanese securities company, The Bank of New York Securities Company Japan Ltd.

In his new position, Mr Saji will be based in Tokyo and will report to Jai Arya, head of client management for Asia, based in Singapore. Mr Saji's focus will be to expand the Company's Japanese business and to ensure clients receive the full benefit of the company's leading capabilities across its broad array of products and services.

Mr. Saji previously spent more than 30 years with UFJ/Sanwa Bank Group and held senior managerial positions at Sanwa Bank, UFJ Tsubasa Securities and UFJ Bank. Most recently, Mr Saji was the Vice Chairman of The Shinsei Securities, a 100% subsidiary of The Shinsei Bank.

Mr. Saji received a B.A. Degree from Hitotsubashi University and attended the Advanced Management Program of University of Pennsylvania Wharton School.
