The Bank of New York Mellon Appoints René Boettcher as Chairman of Latin America Region

NEW YORK, December 5, 2009  — The Bank of New York Mellon, the global leader in asset management and securities servicing, has appointed René Boettcher as chairman of the Latin America region, which comprises all countries south of the United States.

In his new position, Boettcher will lead the development and implementation of the Company's business strategy and chair its Latin America Management Committee. He will also continue to serve as head of client management for Latin America, reporting in that role to Bill Williams, head of developing markets client management. Karen Peetz, chief executive officer of Financial Markets and Treasury Services, will be the Executive Committee sponsor for Latin America.

Boettcher joined the company's Depositary Receipt business in 1996 and was instrumental in leading new business development throughout the Latin America region. In October 1997, he moved to Brazil to become the company's country manager for Depositary Receipt and Corporate Trust-related sales and relationship management efforts. He returned to New York City in 2005 to assume the role of head of sales and marketing for the Latin America region within the Depositary Receipt business. In January 2007, he became head of client management for Latin America.
