Represents First Italian Market Covered Bond Program Following Implementation of New Supervisory Regulations

MILAN, Italy, July 9, 2008 — The Bank of New York Mellon, the global leader in asset management and securities servicing, has been appointed by Banca Popolare di Milano to act as corporate trust provider for its EUR 10 billion covered bond program. This is the first covered bond program to come to market in Italy following the implementation of new supervisory regulations by Banca d'Italia.

As corporate trust provider, The Bank of New York Mellon will act as representative of noteholders, principal paying agent, listing agent and back up account bank and cash manager.
