Newton Wins City of Milwaukee Employes' Retirement System Global Real Return Mandate

Oct 16, 2014

LONDON and NEW YORK, Oct. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Newton*, part of BNY Mellon Investment Management, has announced that it has been awarded a $62.5M Global Real Return mandate by The Employes' Retirement System (ERS) of the City of Milwaukee.

ERS is responsible for the management of the city's $5 billion pension fund. The ERS was created by an act of the Wisconsin Legislature in 1937 to provide retirement-related benefits for members and their beneficiaries.

The objective of the Newton Global Real Return Strategy is to achieve an absolute return with low volatility, and significant emphasis is placed on capital protection through the investment in traditional assets.  The benchmark unconstrained multi-asset approach utilizes Newton's global thematic investment process, having the freedom to invest across multiple asset classes in search for the right mix of portfolio characteristics for the investment outlook that is anticipated.

Newton has been building multi-asset portfolios for clients since its inception in 1978. The Global Real Return Strategy is an unconstrained evolution of this long-term capability.

"We are delighted by The Employes' Retirement System of the City of Milwaukee's decision and overall confidence in Newton to manage assets on behalf of their plan participants," said James Wylie, Head of Newton, North America. "This appointment reflects the continued success of the global real return strategy as an investment and our continued commitment to providing solutions to clients throughout North America."
