BMO 2014 Volunteer Day: BMO Employees Across North America Team Up to Help Even the Odds

TORONTO, ON and CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Jun 5, 2014) - Over the past week, thousands of BMO employees left their desks behind and collectively invested time to volunteer in communities across Canada and the U.S. in support of B MO Volunteer Day.

Launched in 2001, BMO Volunteer Day provides opportunities for BMO employees to participate in charitable work and projects during business hours. This year, it encompassed more than 400 projects in communities across Canada and the U.S., including children and youth organizations, elder care, food banks, community housing and health care facilities, family resource centers, parks and recreational facilities, relief organizations and homeless shelters.

"BMO Volunteer Day is one of the ways we put our principles into practice -- it says something important about who we are and what matters to us, both individually and as a bank," said Eric Tripp, President, BMO Capital Markets. "Across our footprint, we care about the same things that are important to our customers. Giving back isn't something we just reflect on once a year -- it's something we live every day."

"Volunteer work bridges the gap for agencies that are spearheading essential work in communities across the continent. As an employer, we recognize the power we have to help further their efforts and make a difference in the lives of others."

    BMO Volunteer Day Projects included:

    • BMO employees in Toronto offered a helping hand to patients, staff and visitors at Toronto East General Hospital as part of the Friendly Visitor program.
    • At Chicagoland Habitat for Humanity, BMO employees continued the transformation of a home in the West Pullman neighborhood, which will help provide stability for a low-income family and give them the opportunity to own a decent, safe, and affordable home.
    • School children at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary received a nutritious breakfast prepared by BMO employees, in association with the United Way.
    • In association with the Centraide of Greater Montreal's Day of Caring™ program, BMO employees in Laval helped make lunches for school children and redistribute food to community organizations.
