    STUDENTS TRY TO SPELL THEIR WAY TO $40,000
    BMO Harris Bank Supports Yavapai County Spelling Bee

    PHOENIX, AZ (Jan. 17, 2013) – What do the words staphylococci, narcolepsy, psoriasis, and chlorophyll have in common? In addition to being used in the medical world, each of these terms was a winning word in a national spelling bee.

    Each year, school children across the country study word roots, definitions, spelling and etymologies for countless hours in hopes of being crowned their school’s spelling champ. BMO Harris Bank announces that it is continuing its multi-year support of the Yavapai County Spelling Bee. This year’s bee is on February 13 in the Multi-Use Complex Theater at the Camp Verde Unified School District. The victor will represent Yavapai County in the state championship. The state champ will represent Arizona in Washington D.C. later this year participating in the 87th Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee, where the 2012 winner took home more than $40,000 in cash and prizes.

    “Preparing for a spelling bee helps enforce a number of life skills in addition to improving the child’s vocabulary and improving their spelling skills,” said Steve Johnson, BMO Harris Bank Arizona President. “BMO Harris Bank is pleased to continue our financial funding of this event and the part it plays in support of our educational system.”
