Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts applauds the United States Supreme Court's recent decision on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). In February 2013, we were one of nearly 300 companies and business groups across the country that filed "a friend of the court" brief noting that the DOMA required us to discriminate against some employees. We are already working to implement the Supreme Court's ruling and look forward to further guidance from the federal government.
