BOSTON -- April 24, 2013 -- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts extends our gratitude to the heroic efforts of law enforcement, first responders and caregivers who have worked so courageously to assist the victims of last week's bombing at the Boston Marathon. Our deepest sympathies go out to the victims and their families.
We are working closely with local physicians, hospitals and other health care providers to ensure that our members who have been affected by this tragedy get the health care services and treatment they need. These efforts are being led by a dedicated member support team that consists of clinicians and customer service specialists. Affected members should call 1-800-588-5507, or the phone number on the front of their Blue Cross ID card.
We are also making our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), LifeWorks by Ceridian, available to all Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts members who may need support or assistance in coping with the effects of the last week's Boston Marathon Tragedy. These resources will be at no cost to the members and will include 24-hour access to behavioral health consultants for clinical assessment, and referrals to community and online resources. These services may be accessed by calling 1-800-328-1952.
As part of our effort to support the broader community response to last week's bombing, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is contributing $100,000 to The One Fund Boston, Inc. and will match dollar-for dollar any contribution its 3,500 employees make. In addition, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and Blue Cross Blue Shield plans throughout the country have contributed nearly $100,000 to the fund. We here at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts have always been One Community One Blue and are proud to call Boston our home.
