LOVELAND, Colo. (May 17, 2019) – Banner Health is adding mental health services at McKee Medical Center for older adults in need of immediate mental health care and those who need follow-up care in an outpatient setting.  

The service will be available to aging adults who have a behavioral health disorder including thought and mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder and others. The unit will not provide long-term care for elderly patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

“In 2017, the three Banner hospital emergency departments in Northern Colorado treated over 1,600 patients with psychiatric conditions who were then transferred to specialty psychiatric hospitals,” said Wendy Sparks, chief operating office for Banner Health in Northern Colorado. “The transition process can take several days, leaving patients in need of immediate psychiatric care. We are excited to now be able to care for these patients locally and ensure everyone in need is properly treated and cared for.”

The outpatient clinic, located in McKee Medical Center, will offer follow-up care for elderly patients with behavioral health needs and will open late this year. The 17-bed inpatient unit will occupy a renovated area on McKee’s second floor. Construction will begin in June with the opening expected in early 2020.
