PHOENIX. (Nov. 9, 2018) – Banner Alzheimer’s Institute in coordination with community partners is hosting Shine a Light on All Dementias, a family-friendly picnic to bring more public awareness and help reduce stigma surrounding the disease in our local community. From 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 the community is invited to celebrate National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month on the lawn of the Arizona State Capitol located at 1700 W. Washington St. in Phoenix.

During the free event attendees can enjoy live music, lawn games, mustache pretzels, live art creations, and more. The event will culminate in lighting the Capitol purple at sunset, the color designated to honor the more than five million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease.

“This is truly a special event for caregivers, families, social workers and those that are impacted by all kinds of dementias,” said Lori Nisson, MSW, LCSW, family and community services director at Banner Alzheimer’s Institute and Banner Sun Health Research Institute. “We wanted to host an event where families can forget about disease for an evening and enjoy each other.”
