PHOENIX (Feb. 19, 2018) – Family physician Patrick Rankin, MD, brings creativity, relationship building and expertise to his new role as chief executive officer of Banner Medical Group (BMG).

In his new role, Dr. Rankin will drive the culture, create attractive and sustainable environments for providers, elevate the patient experience and enhance quality clinical outcomes for BMG. His responsibilities include acting as a change agent, as well as directing and supporting a service-oriented, consumer-centric culture and one that is founded on excellent patient care and safety.

Dr. Rankin is a familiar face to the Banner team, he first joined BMG in November 2017 as physician executive for Arizona West.

“He has a new, but demonstrated track record of improving performance and establishing credibility,” said Becky Kuhn, chief operating officer at Banner Health. “His extensive background in executive leadership, quality, strategic recruitment and operational accountability will be invaluable in his new role.” 

Previously, Dr. Rankin served as chief physician executive of Kalispell Regional Healthcare in Montana, where he focused on developing cooperative relationships. In addition, he served as the chief medical officer of the Indiana-based Community Physician Network, a a group with more than 550 integrated providers that he helped develop; and was the chief medical officer of the Community Physicians of Indiana, a 180- provider primary care group.

As a family physician, Dr. Rankin’s experience includes working as a rural community physician and founding his own practice, where he merged small-town medical models with integrated technology and resources.

Rankin replaces former CEO Dr. Mystie Johnson-Foote, who retired from the role in February. Dr. Johnson-Foote joined Banner and served as Chief Medical Officer for Banner Thunderbird, Banner Del E. Webb and Banner Medical Group before being named CEO of Banner Medical Group in 2016.
