TOLLESON (Aug. 9, 2017) – While the national debate about health care is at center stage, there’s one place where uninsured and underinsured children can get free health care services for everything from breathing problems to sports physicals.

The Banner Community Clinic at Porfirio H. Gonzales Elementary School in Tolleson offers free health services to uninsured and underinsured kids from newborn through high school (which in some cases can be young adults 21 or 22).

As part of Banner’s efforts to keep children healthy and limit their sick days, Banner offers another clinic in the East Valley and a Healthmobile that travels throughout metro Phoenix.

All Banner’s Community Clinics are staffed by experienced health care professionals, including a nurse practitioner and a bilingual medical assistant.

“It’s an amazing service that we provide. When a child isn’t feeling well, it affects how they do in school and it also affects the entire family,’’ said Sheryl Peterson, a nurse practitioner at the clinic. “We are here to provide convenient care to any sick child who comes through our doors.’’

Children who go to other schools can still come to the school-based clinic for care.

Services available include:

  • Sick visits and follow-up care
  • Well-child exams / sports and camp physicals
  • Immunizations
  • Health education
  • Referral to appropriate specialty care (Although the cost of specialty services are not covered by Banner Children’s Community Clinic, discounted fees for visits are available to eligible patients)

The Tolleson clinic is located at 9401 W. Garfield Road. This location is generally open between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Banner’s other Community Clinic is at 564 W. 9th St., Suite 2. This location is generally open between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Mondays and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays

At both clinics, hours are subject to change. Please call ahead at (480) 412-6344. For more information, please go to www.BannerChildrens.com/CommunityClinics.
