Renowned physician joins Banner to lead sports medicine services

PHOENIX (Nov. 4, 2019) – Banner Health announced today that Evan Lederman, MD, an internationally recognized orthopedic surgeon and executive leader in sports medicine, has joined the organization. He will serve as the first chief of sports medicine for Banner Health.

Dr. Lederman will be responsible for creating a state-of-the-art sports medicine program, including development of an academic component to teach the next generation of orthopedic surgeons.

For the past 24 years, Dr. Lederman has established himself as a well-respected national and international research expert, inventor and leader in reconstructive shoulder repair and sports medicine. He’s published numerous medical articles and journals that discuss the results of his research.

He joins Banner from The Orthopedic Clinic Association (TOCA), where he held several physician leadership roles, including director of the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship. Additionally, the Orthopedic Surgery residents at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix have completed their sports medicine training under his guidance since the program’s inception.

Dr. Lederman has worked as a consultant physician for several institutions and organizations, including: Arizona State University, the Phoenix Suns, Ballet Arizona, Grand Canyon University and the National Football League. He was head team physician for the Phoenix Mercury for 13 years and has served as the Milwaukee Brewers' Arizona orthopedic team physician since 2005.
