PHOENIX (Dec. 29, 2017) -- This flu season is hitting the United States harder than in years past.

Today the CDC reported that the flu was “widespread” in 36 states including Arizona, Colorado, California, Nebraska and Wyoming.

Banner Health infectious disease specialists, in coordination with local public health departments, say that H3N2 is the predominant circulating strain this year. That strain is typically associated with more serious flu seasons.

Some Banner hospitals in Arizona were reporting an average of 100 patients with flu-like symptoms in their emergency rooms per day.
