Eighth Annual Arizona Congenital Heart Walk to be held on Sunday, Nov. 5

PHOENIX (Nov. 2, 2017) – At the tender age of four months, Kaylee Onifer, of Mesa, was already an open-heart surgery patient. Born with four holes in her tiny heart, Kaylee underwent surgery to correct the problems and help turn her into the joyful 21-month-old that she is now.
Kaylee is one of 40,000 babies born with heart problems. On Nov. 5, current and former congenital-heart patients, like Kaylee, will gather in Tempe for the eighth Annual Arizona Congenital Heart Walk to honor those who have been impacted by congenital heart disease and to raise money for foundations that help them.
The Arizona Congenital Heart Walk is a one-mile walk through the Tempe Diablo Stadium and surrounding area and includes refreshments, music/entertainment and fun activities on the stadium for all ages. It is expected to bring together more than 1000 participants from all across Arizona as they join forces to help tackle the most common birth defect in the world: congenital heart defects.
Cardon Children’s Medical Center is one of the platinum sponsors of the event. Kaylee’s mother, Amy, is helping lead the Cardon team to raise money for it.
“Kaylee’s surgery was just so amazing. You can barely see her scars now. We just call it her ‘zipper line,’’ says Amy. “We feel so fortunate that she is the beautiful, little, energetic girl that she is now. It’s a blessing.’’
