PHOENIX (Feb. 13, 2018) – Parents grieving the loss of a child at birth will now have the opportunity to spend a little more time with them to say goodbye at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix. Midnight Mammacitas, a group of women in the Valley working to support other moms, has collected donations to purchase a CuddleCot for the Phoenix non-profit hospital and donated on Tuesday, Feb. 13. The CuddleCot is a cot that cools the baby’s body to prolong the amount of time parents can spend with their stillborn infant.

“Families experiencing a stillbirth struggle with their grief,” said Melissa Rothlisberger, neonatal intensive care unit director. “By offering this CuddleCot, we’re giving them the extra time they need to process what has happened and say a proper goodbye to their angel baby.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report 24,000 babies are stillborn each year in the United States. Midnight Mammacitas are working to fund a second CuddleCot for families at Banner - University Medical Center Phoenix, you can donate on this giving page or call (602) 747-GIVE.
