GLENDALE, Ariz. – Banner Children’s at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center and Glendale Firefighters from local 493 have partnered to educate the Glendale community on the importance of water safety. On Saturday, May 20 from 9 a.m. to noon the public is encouraged to join Banner Health volunteers and firefighters to walk door-to-door, reminding the community how to be “water safe” inside and outside the house.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death for children ages one through four. Organizers of the walk hope that these educational efforts will help prevent tragedies from occurring. Representatives from Ironman Pool Fence will also join the walk to inspect and repair pool fences. They will also work with families who do not have a pool fence to install one.
Volunteer orientation will start at 9:15 a.m. on the southwest corner of 55th Ave and Thunderbird Rd. with the walk proceeding at 9:30 a.m. Volunteers will visit homes between 59th Ave and 51st Ave and north of Thunderbird Rd. to Acoma Dr.

We are very active in the community; Last year alone Glendale Firefighters volunteered over 6,000 hours while off duty to support numerous local community causes including: Hope for Hunger Food Bank, Glendale Firefighters Annual Toy Drive, Glendale Firefighters Back to School Drive, neighborhood smoke detector walks, water safety walks, donations of services, food and money to families in need and financial assistance to Firefighters, Police and Military personnel injured and families of those lost in the line of duty.
