Banner - University Medical Center Phoenix Establishes First-Ever Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship

PHOENIX – Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix (BUMCP) has received approval from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to establish a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship at BUMCP, the first-ever fellowship if its kind in Greater Phoenix.

With the announcement of the fellowship, BUMCP is also introducing its first fellow of the 2017 MFM Fellowship, Dr. Michael Leovic, who joins the BUMCP residency after attending medical school at Ohio State. While the University of Arizona in Tucson has an existing MFM fellowship, this is the first MFM fellowship in Phoenix. The BUMCP fellowship is under The University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix.

“After years of hard work and perseverance by many other people who came before me, we are finally able to celebrate such a monumental milestone for our department,” notes Kevin Huls, MD, maternal fetal medicine fellowship director at BUMCP. “This is a huge accomplishment and we are proud to move forward with this very special ACGME recognition.”

The ACGME accredits residency and fellowship programs, confers recognition on additional program formats or components and dedicates resources to initiatives addressing areas of import in graduate medical education.
