MESA, Arizona – Cardon Children’s Medical Center will turn its north parking lot into “Safety Town,” a highly interactive miniature  town, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22. The facility is located at 1400 S. Dobson Road. 

The event, which is the first of its kind in Arizona, will offer a wide variety of exhibits on health topics that impact people of all ages. Participants can stroll among colorful mini buildings and sidewalks, complete with crosswalks and traffic signals, to learn about safety through hands-on activities.  

Topics include water safety for children and adults; healthy living and hand washing; senior safety (such as fall prevention); properly storing and disposing of medicine; poison safety; and car safety, ranging from car seats for children to distracted driving for teens and adults. Medical experts will also be on hand to discuss sports injuries; fire prevention; gun safety; tips for riding bikes, scooters, and skateboards; and pedestrian safety.

“We aim to provide a vast range of injury prevention education in a very fun way, along with promoting healthy lifestyles,” said Tracey Fejt, injury prevention coordinator and outreach manager for Cardon Children’s. 

Cardon Children’s Medical Center provides comprehensive pediatric care to children of all ages. Services include emergency care, a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, general pediatrics, surgical and rehabilitation services, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, pediatric critical care, nephrology, hematology/oncology, urology, gastroenterology, neurology and outpatient services.
