LOVELAND, Colo. (Aug. 8, 2016) – The McKee Medical Center Foundation is pleased to announce its 2016 grant award winners for the McKee Scholarship Program, representing its largest community investment ever with $29,000 distributed to 24 Northern Colorado students.
The annual scholarship program is awarded each year by the Foundation and the Volunteer Leadership Council to help local students pursue healthcare related degrees. Since the McKee Foundation Scholarship Program began in 1989, $466,000 has been awarded to local high school students and adult learners. The average scholarship awarded is $1,000.
“This year, we had a 30 percent increase in applications for the McKee Scholarship Program,” said Ashley Kasprzak, McKee Medical Center Foundation Fund Development Program Specialist. “McKee is proud to support local students and adult learners in pursuing degrees relating to nursing or the healthcare field. Additionally, we’d like to also encourage the community’s support of the Marge Schafer Nursing Scholarship to ensure more students can enroll in nursing-related studies.”
One local student, Molly Perry, has received the Marge Schafer Nursing Scholarship from the McKee Foundation for the second year in a row. In 2014, the McKee Medical Center Foundation announced the creation of a new scholarship fund in honor of retired nurse and Loveland resident Marge Schafer. Since its inception, the Marge Schafer Nursing Scholarship has reach 45 percent of its goal of raising $150,000 to fund nursing education.
Perry grew up in Loveland, attended Thompson Valley High School and is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Regis University.
“It’s an honor to be awarded with the Marge Schafer Nursing Scholarship for the second time,” said Molly Perry. “I chose nursing as my field of study because nurses are not only healers, but are also able to help promote wellness and assist patients with necessary lifestyle changes required to prevent illness. I have lived in Colorado for my entire life and I am eager to share my passion for wellness with the residents of Colorado once I graduate from nursing school.”

The McKee Medical Center Foundation was established in April 1981, as a permanent charitable development and trust fund set up to raise monies and establish long-term development activities that will produce funds for the sole benefit and relief of McKee Medical Center, Loveland, Colorado.
