Press Releases
CAMDEN, N.J. – March 26, 2026 – New Jersey American Water is beginning a $2 million water infrastructure improvement project in Piscataway to enhance system reliability, support water quality and improve service performance for customers. The work is part of the company’s longterm commitment to upgrading aging infrastructure across the more than 190 communities it serves in New Jersey.
“We are continuing to make responsible investments that support system resiliency and meet the long‑term needs of our customers,” said Mike Rinaldo, senior construction inspector, New Jersey American Water. “Replacing older mains with modern pipe materials improves reliability, strengthens water flow for household use and firefighting and reduces the likelihood of service interruptions.”
The project includes replacing about 3,000 feet of water main installed in the 1960s with new 8‑inch ductile iron pipe. As part of the upgrade, 41 existing customer service lines will be renewed and connected to the new water main, helping improve service consistency throughout the neighborhood.
Work will take place along Winans Avenue from Stelton Road to the end of the street. Weather permitting, construction is expected to begin on or around March 27, 2026, and continue through the end of May 2026. Crews will work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Weekend work is not expected unless needed to maintain the project schedule.
The project will be performed by New Jersey American Water’s local, qualified contractor, J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, Inc. Traffic control will be coordinated in partnership with local officials to support safe travel through work zones. Access to homes and driveways will be maintained throughout the project. Daily cleanup will occur, and where excavation is required, temporary restoration will be installed. Permanent restoration will follow once the soil has settled, typically about 90 days after project completion.
