Projects will strengthen reliability, reduce service disruptions, and improve water flow for firefighting
MCMURRAY, Pa. (Jan. 23, 2026) – Pennsylvania American Water today announced that several improvement projects will start in January to replace 1.4 miles of water main in South Union and Redstone townships. The projects, totaling $1.6 million, will improve reliability for customers, reduce service disruptions and increase water flow for firefighting.
“Reliable water service starts with strong, dependable infrastructure,” said Tiffany Reed, senior manager of operations for Pennsylvania American Water. “By replacing older pipes, we’re helping reduce unexpected outages, improving water pressure, and making sure our customers have the reliable service they count on every day.”
During the projects, starting at the end of this month, company contractors will install new six- and eight-inch ductile iron pipes, replacing aged water mains that were installed in the 1950s and 70s in the following municipalities:
South Union Township
- Watson Drive (from Rex Drive to Duall Drive)
- Rex Drive (from Bryson Boulevard to the end of the street)
- Duall Drive (from Bryson Boulevard to the end of the street)
- Bryson Boulevard (from SR 40 to the end of the street)
Redstone Township
- Twin Hills Road (from National Pike to the hydrant located between house numbers 235 and 225)
Crews will work on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction. The company expects to complete the main installation, including connecting all customer service lines to the new mains, along with final street restoration and paving, later this summer.
During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences. This infrastructure upgrade project is not only an important investment in public health and safety, it also helps support the economic health of the community. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout the economy. Statewide, Pennsylvania American Water invested approximately $675 million in 2024 alone to improve its water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems, supporting more than 10,125 jobs through these continued investments.
