David J. Shapiro, Air Canada’s Senior Vice President, International & Regulatory Affairs and Chief Legal Officer, was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from Lexology and the International Law Office, with the support of the Association of Corporate Counsel, in New York. The 11th annual Global Counsel Awards celebrated the achievements of in-house counsel from leading international organizations across all industries including finance, aircraft manufacturers, global fashion houses and commerce, who were recognized by their peers as excelling in their specialized fields.
David was selected following the research team’s work conducting in-depth analysis of more than 4,000 nominations from in-house lawyers and legal departments worldwide, for his significant contributions to Air Canada’s transformation and development of a world class in-house legal department.
In introducing David at the award presentation, the ACC noted, “He is a shining example of what the ideal corporate counsel should be for his or her client; his efforts have generated not only substantial concrete financial benefits for his client, but they have also benefited his industry as a whole, and he is the first to recognise that, behind every great General Counsel stands a great team.”
