AARP Endorses Bill To Lower Costs for Family Caregivers

WASHINGTON—AARP Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy and Engagement Officer Nancy LeaMond issued the following statement in response to the introduction of the bipartisan Lowering Costs for Caregivers Act by Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA).

“AARP is pleased to endorse the Lowering Costs for Caregivers Act, which would allow people to use their tax-free health savings accounts and flexible spending accounts on medical expenses for their parents, in addition to their spouses and dependents, as allowed under the current law. On average, America’s 48 million family caregivers spend over $7,200 annually out-of-pocket on caregiving expenses. This is an important step to provide them some much needed financial relief that can also help reduce their stress, especially for the ‘sandwich generation’ caregivers who simultaneously care for their parents and their children. We applaud the bipartisan efforts of Senators Rosen and Cassidy to improve the lives of caregivers across the country.”
