TRIPADVISOR RECOGNISES THE WORLD’S BEST DESTINATIONS WITH TRAVELLERS’ CHOICE AWARDS
London Wins Top World Honours; Sydney Secures No. 24 spot on the World List

TripAdvisor®, the travel planning and booking site, today announced the winners of its Travellers’ Choice™ awards for destinations, recognising travellers’ favourite places around the world. Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for hotels, restaurants and attractions in destinations worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period, as well as traveller booking interest on TripAdvisor.

In the South Pacific, Sydney was named the top destination, and the city also took the 24th place in the World list.

“These Travellers’ Choice Destinations are award-winning because they are beloved by our global TripAdvisor community and are ranked based on feedback and booking interest across a 12-month period,” said TripAdvisor’s Director of Communications, Asia Pacific, Janice Lee Fang. “Aussies who are planning to escape the cooler months of the year should consider booking their hotels on TripAdvisor now as there are great reasons to visit and explore these destinations in April.”

NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events, The Hon. Stuart Ayres commented on Sydney’s leading position on the Australia list, “Whether visitors are exploring Sydney for the first time or returning to enjoy the city’s new experiences, we are excited to showcase Sydney’s stunning beaches, fantastic food and wine scene and surrounding NSW regions to TripAdvisor travellers.”

Gold Coast Tourism, who is celebrating their newly established top 10 position on the Australia list commented, “We are thrilled that the Gold Coast has been recognised by the global TripAdvisor community in the 2016 Travellers’ Choice Destination awards,” said Gold Coast Tourism Chief Executive Officer, Martin Winter.

“It is a fantastic achievement for our city and a tribute to the great work of our local accommodation providers, tourism attractions and restaurants who deliver excellent customer service and have helped position the Gold Coast second in the Top 10 destinations in Australia,” he said.

TripAdvisor has also identified top-rated hotels and information on upcoming events and attractions to provide guidance on best times to visit and offer travellers more insights about great things to discover in these award-winning destinations.
