As our cousins across the pond get ready to celebrate Independence Day this weekend, TripAdvisor can reveal the best rated burgers to be found right here in the UK.

Topping the UK ranking is Rox Burger, founded in 2014 by Fabrizio Bodnar Pires, a London chef hailing from Brazil, serving a selection of classic fare recreated with a unique twist.

The top ten ranking has been compiled according to reviews and opinions submitted by TripAdvisor travellers*.

So if you are looking for the perfect patty, or maybe just an excuse to sample the special sauce, here is a rundown of Britain’s best burger joints.

1.    Rox Burger, London (5 out of 5 bubbles on TripAdvisor, 156 reviews**)

Founded in 2014 by Fabrizio Bodnar Pires, a London chef hailing from Brazil, Rox Burger is a fun, new take on the gourmet burger industry.  With a concept of ‘never frozen ingredients’, Rox Burger serves home-made food, offering a selection of classic fare recreated with a unique twist.

2.    Meat59, Torquay (5 out of 5 bubbles on TripAdvisor, 125 reviews)

Meat59 serves up hand pressed burgers using locally sourced beef and pork from Devon. Eats on the menu include the ‘That’s my burger nacho burger’,  a 6oz patty with jalapeno, guacamole, chipotle mayo, Monteray Jack and tortilla chips and the ‘Sorted Satay’ which is made up of chicken breast, satay sauce, mayo, spicy slaw, wild rocket and beef tomato.

3.    Burger Brothers, Brighton (4.5 out of 5 bubbles on TripAdvisor, 649 reviews)

Located in the bustling North Laine food district of Brighton, this small burger joint is run by two friends. Unusually, their buns are made from a Challah bread recipe, a Jewish bread usually plaited and eaten on special occasions. Burger Brothers burger options include the Bennetton (stilton, mushroom and wasabi mayo) and The Favourite (goats’ cheese, roast peppers and secret sauce).

A TripAdvisor reviewer said, “Excellent Burger Brothers experience - the food was first class and the service was exceptional - highly recommended.”

4.    Burgers Off Broadway, London (4.5 out of 5 bubbles on TripAdvisor, 28 reviews)

Located on London’s Fulham Broadway, Burgers Off Broadway serves burgers made from hand reared cattle in a brioche bun with options including the classic ‘American Cheese & Gherkin’ and for those wanting something a little different, the ‘Greek Style’ lamb burger.

A TripAdvisor reviewer said, “Burgers off Broadway is the place for good quality gourmet burgers. Fresh ingredients used. Small place but you can dine in the restaurant in the afternoon. Very friendly waiters and good service – worth the journey!”

5.    Boss Burgers, Leeds (4.5 out of 5 bubbles on TripAdvisor, 187 reviews)

Boss Burgers offers its diners patties made from only the best grass fed Yorkshire cattle, with select cuts from Dexter, Longhorn and Galloways going. Options on the menu include ‘The Goats Cheese & Chilli One’, consisting of a beer burger patty, goats cheese, chilli jam, rocket and homemade Boss mayo.

6.    Hub Box Exeter, Exeter (4.5 out of 5 bubbles on TripAdvisor, 342 reviews)

Opened in 2003, in the centre of St Ives, on the harbour front, Hub Box Exeter serves burgers made from Cornish rare breed beef, a range of local seafood and seasonal specials. Burgers on the menu include the Big Kahuna (two 4oz burgers, BBQ sauce, pulled pork, Swiss cheese and onion rings) and the Bella (homemade falafel, sweet chilli jam, charred corn and avocado salsa).

Situated just outside Loughborough town centre, this Victorian terrace pub offers a ‘Burgers & Brews’ menu of home minced and hand crafted burgers. Highlights on the menu include the '‘Pulled Pork in Hirata bun’ with hoi sin sauce, spring onion and fresh chilli and the ‘Inferno’, a 6oz beef patty with homemade jalapeno and scotch bonnet relish, Red Leicester cheese, green chilli and hot sauce.

A TripAdvisor reviewer said, “Went to the Paget on Saturday for a burger and a pint in the sun. The burger was well cooked and presented, great service and a beautiful garden to sit out in the sun. Definitely worth a visit.”

Offering burgers made from 100% beef from local farmers, Blackhorn’s menu features classic burgers and wraps including the ‘Greenburger’ served with lettuce, aubergine, goats cheese and sun blushed tomato relish and the ‘Grillburger’, a cheeseburger with dry cure smoked streaky bacon, lettuce, tomato, Blackhorn sauce, aubergine, goats cheese and sun blushed tomato relish.

10. The Shack, Torquay (4.5 out of 5 bubbles on TripAdvisor, 144 reviews)

At The Shack, burgers are hand pressed and made locally using only prime South West aged beef and its kitchen is on view, so diners can see their food as it is being cooked. Items on the menu include the ‘Surf & Turf’, an 8oz burger topped with king prawns, shack garnish and garlic mayo and the ‘Italian Job’, and 8oz patty topped with salami, mozzarella, pesto and rocket.
