CLT Atrium Evacuated

Charlotte Fire and Airport officials are responding to an incident in the terminal Atrium.

4:35 p.m. -- Earlier today a fire occurred at a concession venue in the CLT Atrium, the central food court area.

Airport Operations and Charlotte Fire received a fire alarm at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Charlotte Fire Department determined the fire was confined to the concessions venue. Airport staff and partners, at the direction of Charlotte Fire, evacuated the Atrium area and moved passengers into the concourses.  The roadway in front of the terminal also was closed on the upper and lower levels for emergency vehicles. 

The Airport has resumed full operations.  

Passengers are advised to arrive early for scheduled flights due to heavy traffic around the terminal and to check flight status with their airlines.

3:50 p.m. -- Passengers evacuated during the incident are being brought back into the terminal.

3:40 p.m. -- The fire is contained. Crews are preparing to purge the area of smoke. We are working with our partners and fire officials to resume full service.

3:15 p.m. -- Arrivals and departures continue. Local arriving passengers are temporarily not being allowed in the Terminal.

3:10 p.m. -- Charlotte Fire is responding to a kitchen fire in the Atrium area. Passengers have been safely removed from the Atrium area to the concourses. The roadway in front of the Terminal is currently closed to traffic for emergency crews.

3 p.m. -- Charlotte Fire Department is responding to a situation in the atrium. At this time passengers are being moved away from the Atrium
