Ride-App Pick up Moving to New Location

Charlotte Douglas International Airport is making a final traffic shift on the lower level roadway this week and relocating ride-app service pick up to a larger area.

Beginning 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, commercial vehicles (shuttles/buses) will shift to the newly constructed lower level inner traffic lanes. The change will free up the five outer lanes near the Hourly Deck for personal vehicles.

The Airport shifted vehicular movement on Oct. 24 to prepare the area for the new traffic patterns. Motorists headed to the lower level should follow signs to arrivals. Upper level traffic remains unchanged for dropping off passengers.

At the same time tomorrow, ride-app service pick up will move to lower level - Zone 4 of the outer lanes. The new location is more than twice the size of previous designated pick-up areas.

Also new this week, numbers will replace letters for zone identification on the lower level. Colorful signage with large numbers will help passengers easily identify pick-up locations.

The $50 million Elevated Roadway and Terminal Curb Front project is part of Destination CLT, a $2.5 to $3.1 billion capital investment program that includes concourse renovations and expansion of CLT’s roadways, curb front, airfield and terminal. Over the past 20 years, CLT has experienced tremendous growth, increasing from 23 million passengers in 1998 to more than 46 million passengers in 2018. As the sixth busiest airport nationwide and seventh worldwide, Destination CLT is designed to meet growth demand through 2035.
