Aviation Department Presents Check to LIFESPAN

March 30, 2016 - Aviation Department officials presented a $28,325.08 check from last year's Runway 5K Run to LIFESPAN representatives on Tuesday, March 29.

The ninth annual Runway 5K Run, held on October 31, drew nearly 2,000 participants to CLT's airfield. "It was a great event for a wonderful cause," said Interim Aviation Director Brent Cagle. "Every year, we look forward to holding such a unique run that helps open doors for so many people in the workforce."

The Airport has donated proceeds from the Run to LIFESPAN since 2008, totaling more than $193,000.

The nonprofit organization assists children and  adults with developmental disabilities by providing education, employment and enrichment opportunities. The money raised will benefit the organization's LIFEWORKS, Innovations and Supported Employment programs. Today, 21 LIFEESPAN participants work at CLT.

"Charlotte Douglas International Airport started as an Employment partner with LIFESPAN in 2006," said Alisha Tatum, LIFESPAN, Director of Employment Services. "Now 10 years later many businesses at CLT frequently hire LIFESPAN individuals, recognizing the talent force that exists among the disabled population."

The 10th annual Runway 5K Run is scheduled for Saturday, October 29. Registration begins Friday, April 1. The cost is $10 through June 10 in honor of the Run's 10th anniversary. The cost will rise to $25 June 11- October 17 and $30 October 18 – October 28.
