Cigna Virtual Wellness Centers Make Access to Care More Affordable and Convenient
By

While employers around the country are focused on how to safely reopen offices, Cigna is making it easier for them to provide employees with peace of mind through convenient, worksite-based health care. Cigna Virtual Wellness Centers bring the convenience of worksite-based health centers to employees through a connection to a virtual provider, allowing for expanded scope of care and better health engagement.

“Virtual Wellness Centers expand employers’ ability to support their employees, providing high quality health services to employees and their families that is affordable and convenient,” said Michele Paige, vice president and general manager, Cigna Onsite Health. “With the advent of COVID-19, employers now also need to think differently about how to navigate access to care more than ever before - leveraging virtual care technology to manage employee health. The result: lower total medical costs, optimized referral patterns and an advocate for employee health.”

What makes a Cigna Virtual Wellness Center different?

As opposed to other virtual care solutions that provide consultation only, visits to a Cigna Virtual Wellness Center are facilitated by an onsite Cigna Health Coach, who is also a registered nurse. The Health Coach allows employees to have a similar experience to an in-person provider visit in a matter of minutes, right at work.

In addition, Cigna’s Concierge Medical Practice means employees see the same practice team on an ongoing basis and have an expanded scope of care ranging from sick visits to expanded primary care visit. This solution has created better health engagement reducing employee health risks, optimizing referrals to high-value network providers, closing gaps in care and driving higher employee productivity.1

The Experience

The in-person Health Coach greets and assists the employee through a check-in process, and connects the employee, via high-resolution live streaming video, to a nurse practitioner or physician for the appointment. In addition, the Health Coach can administer services such as lab draws, testing, vaccines, allergy shots and other preventive care – as well as health coaching for diet, lifestyle and condition management.

For a client in Florida, the addition of a Virtual Wellness Center means healthier, more engaged employees. Since its launch in November of 2019, 76% of employees have used the virtual health center. In addition to increased health engagement and reduced total medical costs, the patient experience has resulted in a total net promoter score2 (tNPS) of 100 and Patient Satisfaction Score of 98%.
