The Bank of New York Mellon to Provide Over 100,000 Meals Worldwide

NEW YORK, December 23, 2008 — The Bank of New York Mellon said today that, on behalf of its 43,000 employees worldwide, it will make contributions to food banks and food distribution centers around the world to buy meals for more than 100,000 people.

"As we celebrate the holidays, many families around the world are having trouble just putting food on the table. With food pantries reporting supplies perilously low and contributions down, our company felt compelled to act," said Robert P. Kelly, chairman and chief executive officer.

In the U.S., facilities that will receive contribution are located in Boston; Chicago; Hillside, NJ; Houston; Los Angeles; Miami; New York City; Orlando; Philadelphia; Pittsburgh; San Francisco; Syracuse, NY; Tacoma, Wash; and Utica, NY.

International locations include Belgium, Brazil, China, India, Ireland, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom.

In 2009, The Bank of New York Mellon will direct its philanthropic focus to organizations that assist low- to moderate-income residents achieve financial stability. The concentration will be on supporting safety net programs in the communities it serves that assist individuals and families in obtaining basic needs (food, housing, health care and utilities), as well as supporting financial literacy, workforce development and education — all of which are fundamental to achieving financial stability.
