Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Statement on Senate Health Care Vote

BOSTON, July 25, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Andrew Dreyfus, President and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, released the following statement today:

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts

"Now that the Senate has voted to begin debate to repeal-and-replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA), we encourage policy makers to work in a bipartisan spirit to improve the ACA to create a health care system that is high quality, affordable, and sustainable.

We do not believe that repealing the ACA is in the best interest of our customers, our state, or our nation.

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has reviewed the proposals now before the Senate and concluded that, if enacted, tens of millions of Americans would lose their health insurance and premiums in the individual insurance market would skyrocket.

As we have stated, we believe that the ACA can be improved, and we support meaningful action to stabilize health insurance markets, make care more affordable, and sustain the significant coverage gains that have been made over the past decade."
