Alaska Air Cargo operates the most extensive air cargo operation on the U.S. West Coast of any passenger airline. The combined team of Alaska Air Group Cargo Services covers more than 85 cities from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to Barrow, Alaska; Boston to the Hawaiian Islands, and beyond.
Alaska Airlines is now the only passenger airline in the US with dedicated cargo planes. Alaska's 737-700 freighter fleet will offer more flexibility and capability across the route network, with more service to Alaskan communities, new routes between Seattle and Alaska, and connectivity to more than 100 other destinations.
Starting in July 2018, Alaska Air Cargo will expand the capacity of our network when we begin flying cargo on flights operated using the Airbus fleet, which will:
- Increase our cargo network by 56 planes, all operating in the Lower 48 states, Hawaii, and Mexico.
- Accept larger belly-loadable cargo, since Airbus aircraft have bigger doors than our Boeing 737s.
- Add new connections like San Francisco-Boston and San Francisco-Kona.
- Add freighter service to Dillingham, Unalakleet, and King Salmon airports.

- Alaska Air Cargo will ship virtually anything to more than 85 destinations.
- Annually Alaska Air Cargo ships over 170 million pounds of cargo, including seafood, mail and freight.
- More than 16 million pounds of fresh Alaska seafood are transported each year from fishing towns throughout Alaska to markets and restaurants across the country.
- Alaska currently operates both all-cargo and combi (part cargo/part passenger) aircraft.
- The 737-700 freighters offer 20% more capacity for the state of Alaska compared to our fleet of combi aircraft. Each freighter can hold up to 39,000 lbs. of cargo compared to 15,000 lbs. (on average) on each combi.
- Freighters run a schedule independent of passenger flights, resulting in more flexibility to drop in extra flights to support the seafood industry. The -700s are more fuel efficient and can fly more than 1,000 nautical miles beyond the range of the -400s.
